[Windows11/12] 7 settings to check when the game is heavy! Should I turn on “Game Mode”?

“I bought a high-spec PC, but it’s not working properly…”
It’s possible that the Windows settings are holding you back.
By default, the OS emphasizes “power saving” and “stability,” which can limit game performance.

We will introduce the Windows optimization settings that gamers who want to earn even 1 FPS should definitely do.
We have excluded dangerous methods such as modifying the registry, and have carefully selected only those that are sure to be effective.

1. Turn game mode “on”

In old Windows, it was said to be “off”, but as of 2026 it is “on” recommended.
If you turn this on, Windows Update and background app operations will be suppressed, allowing CPU resources to be concentrated on the game.
Please check from Settings > Game > Game Mode.

2. HAGS (GPU scheduling with hardware acceleration)

Settings > System > Display > Graphics > Change default graphics settings.
Please turn on “GPU scheduling with hardware acceleration” here.
This is a required setting, especially when using NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 (frame generation).
Having the GPU manage VRAM directly has the effect of reducing latency.

3. Turn off Enhance mouse pointer precision (acceleration)

This is the basics of FPS gamers.
Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options.
Uncheck “Improve pointer precision”.
If this is on, the cursor movement distance will change depending on how fast you move the mouse, making it impossible to aim accurately.

4. Set the power plan to “High Performance”

Control Panel > Power Options.
Change the default setting “Balanced” to “High Performance”.
The CPU clock frequency will not drop, preventing momentary stutters.
