“DPI (dots per inch)” on the gaming mouse settings screen.
The higher the value, the faster the cursor will move, but is there an optimal value for FPS?
We will explain the setting trends of professionals and the calculation formula “eDPI” to find the sensitivity that suits you.
Why do professionals use “400” and “800”
Modern sensors have high performance, so they can work accurately even at high DPI (such as 3200).
However, many pros still use lower numbers such as 400 or 800.
The biggest reason is “operability on the menu screen and desktop”.
Even if you can adjust the sensitivity in-game, the cursor speed on the inventory screen depends on DPI, so if it’s too fast, mistakes will occur when organizing items.
Calculate true sensitivity “eDPI”
Mouse DPI alone does not tell you the actual sensitivity. The value multiplied by the in-game settings is important.
Formula: Mouse DPI × In-game sensitivity = eDPI
For example, if Apex has “DPI 800 x Sensitivity 1.5”, eDPI is 1200.
Even with “DPI 400 x Sensitivity 3.0”, the eDPI is 1200 and the turning distance is the same.
When imitating professional sensitivity, don’t just look at DPI, try to match this eDPI.
Summary
When in doubt, we recommend setting it to “800 DPI” as it is easy to make standard adjustments for any game.
